New Co-Directors Elected
The WMWP Executive Board voted this week to elect two new co-directors to fill in an upcoming vacancy as Inservice Co-Director Sara Palmer prepares to move to Pennsylvania and Continuity Co-Director Tina Brown ends her three-year term.
The two new WMWP leaders are:
- Tracy Walker as the new In-Service Co-Director. Tracy participated in the Oregon Writing Project’s Summer Institute before moving to the Pioneer Valley. She has been part of the English Language Learners Network and recently taught middle school in Ludlow.
- “WMWP allows teachers the rare chance to learn not only from qualified presenters, but also from each other, an opportunity not often available through professional development events of many school districts.” — Tracy
- Erin Smith as the new Continuity Co-Director. Erin recently taught in Holyoke and is now preparing to teach in Springfield next year. Erin has been part of a post-SI Inquiry Group, presented at various WMWP events and was featured this year (with her students) in the Springfield Republican.
- “It is difficult to imagine my professional life without the support of the Western Massachusetts Writing Project because it is the only professional development activity where I get much more than I give.” — Erin
Please extend a warm welcome to our new leaders!

I am thrilled to learn that Tracy Walker is the WMWP In-Service Co-Director. Having worked with Tracy in Ludlow, I can tell you that she is both experienced and creative, and she most certainly embodies the philosophies and the heart of the National Writing Project. Congratulations to Tracy and to WMWP for having the wisdom to make her a part of the team.

I agree.
They both were strong candidates and we are fortunate to have them them both in the leadership team. I had the good fortune to sit next to Tracy at the recent Massachusetts Writing Project conference and I enjoyed talking with her.
